Voice, Songwriting, and Composition Lessons

Starting January 1, 2026, I will have openings in my studio for voice (all styles), piano, and songwriting/composition lessons. With over 15 years of experience working with students of all ages, life experiences, and musical goals, I’ve honed an approach to teaching that honors the inner vision and voice of each human being, with the liberation philosophies of Paolo Freire and scientific knowledge of pedagogy as my foundation.

As a vocal teacher, my goal is to help you develop an understanding of your body and instrument rooted in the physical joy and liberation of singing, and to help you sound like yourself. With a B.A. and M.M. in vocal performance I combine an in-depth knowledge of vocal anatomy and techniques from bel canto to folk to jazz to ensure that your instrument is treated with love and respect and that the health of your instrument is the ultimate goal. I’ve taught indie rock stars, aspiring teen opera singers prepping for college auditions, college students of every vocal style, professional pop vocalists, older folks trying to build a connection with their body, soul, and memory, and everyone in between. Singing is essential for our health and building a relationship with your voice can have ripple effects beyond what you expect, from ensuring you stay healthy and don’t lose your voice on tour to speaking authoritatively in board meetings to singing your favorite songs with your family around the campfire. Singing is the ultimate act of freedom!

Composition and songwriting lessons usually take the form of students bringing their original work to me for discussion and critique, with the ultimate goal of removing our own self-created fears and barriers from our self-expression. Your best ideas live in your gut and in your soul, and our work together will include hat-tips to time-honored compositional and poetic techniques and psychological exercises to help you get out of your own way and create.

I work with ages 16 and older, with a variety of scheduling and fee options available. Sliding scale rates are an option as well. Please inquire via the contact form and I will respond within 24 hours!
