Teaching Artistry
At the core of my art is my belief that music is a powerful force that can connect us with our bodies, our emotions, our communities, and our planet. Such a force is crucial in this time of global upheaval. The following projects - some of my own design, others collaborative - were implemented to invite others into this belief and explore the potential of music as a community building and self-healing salve.
If you are an ensemble or performer looking to work with young composers, or a teacher interested in incorporating creative music, improvisation, and composition into your curriculum, please contact me!

Facilitators Steve Treseler and Kaley Eaton will lead musicians through a series of activities that introduce the creative practices of experimentation, play, and limitations.

Emissary Quartet has paired with Seattle-based composer Kaley Lane Eaton to develop this innovative and exciting new program. Over six weeks, a small cohort of talented middle school and high school musicians will meet with Kaley and Colleen in Seattle for three 2-hour workshop sessions, culminating in a final performance of their new compositions by Emissary Quartet.

The Game Symphony Workshop helps musicians get off the page through Soundpainting, game pieces, and creative chamber music. The multi-day workshop culminates in a dynamic performance of original music.

YOLA at HOLA Young Composer Workshop

Curriculum design and teaching artist

The El Sistema-inspired LA Phil youth orchestra YOLA at HOLA was fertile ground for our young composer project, in which intermediate string players used the letters of their name, the stories of their family, and the sounds of the community to write their own compositions. Students programmed a concert where their works were performed by Longy/Bard MAT students.
